Morigaon District Commissioner urges interested players to register their names

A preparatory meeting of the Assembly constituency and district-level committees was held on Friday at the meeting room of the District Commissioner’s office in the Morigaon district to discuss the smooth conduct of the Assam Khel Maharan 2023-24 to be held across the State from November 1.

MORIGAON: A preparatory meeting of the Assembly constituency and district-level committees was held on Friday at the meeting room of the District Commissioner’s office in the Morigaon district to discuss the smooth conduct of the Assam Khel Maharan 2023-24 to be held across the State from November 1.

The meeting was chaired by District Commissioner Devashish Sharma as well as the chairman of the Morigaon District-Level Committee of Khel Maharan. The meeting also determined the venues for holding various sports competitions. The tournament will be held at Charaibahi Ancholik Sports’ Association ground, Kshirod Barua Stadium and Bhurbandha Regional Sports Association ground for the Morigaon constituency. The tournaments will be held at Kushtali Ground, Nij Gerua Ground and Rajiv Gandhi Sports Complex. The matches will be held at Jagi Higher Secondary School ground, Na-Khola Regional Ground and Ahatguri Ground. The district-level competitions will be held at Kshirod Barua Stadium and Morigaon Higher Secondary and Multipurpose School.

The District Commissioner said this large sports programme is an excellent platform at the grassroots-level to identify talented athletes who can compete at national and international levels. He said there are many promising talented players in the district. He said the people of the Morigaon district and various government departments should work together to bring out these talents and give them a suitable platform. He urged interested players to register on the http://dsywassam.com/khel portal to participate in the tournament. The meeting was attended by Morigaon Municipality Mayor Yogesh Tamuli, Additional Superintendent of Police Dhruvajyoti Nath, District Sports Officer Chandan Talukdar and office bearers of district and assembly constituency level committees.

The event is organized by the Government of Assam with the aim of encouraging sports talents from the grassroots-level and honing their talents. The Khel Maharan will be held in five sports categories namely athletics (100m, 200m, 400m and 800m), football, kabaddi, volleyball and kho-kho. The competitors are divided into four age categories: Under 19 (Male), Under 19 (Female), Over 19 (Male), and Over 19 (Female). The games will be held at several levels from grassroots to state-level. The finals will be held at the state-level after the games are held at the gram panchayat and municipal level, assembly constituency level and district level.
