JAGIROAD: Nagaon HPC MP Pradyut Bordoloi visited Jagiroad on Thursday and took stock of the artificial flood caused by heavy rain here on Tuesday.
Following a heavy shower on Tuesday night, a large part of the town, including residential houses, school buildings, parks and commercial establishments, incurred major loss. Sources said that the natural waterways on the Sonakuchi hillside and on the southern boundary of the town were illegally blocked by erecting some small dams. Following this, the entire town on Tuesday witnessed artificial flood.
The MP, while visiting the affected areas, talked to the people and urged upon the State Government to compensate the affected families who were already facing acute financial hardship following the COVID-19 pandemic. The Congress MP also visited Jagiroad Development Authority and talked to the chairman, Dibyajit Neog for steps to prevent such artificial flood. He expressed shock as to how illegal activities like erection of small dams on natural waterways over the Sonaikuchi hillside were carried out under the very nose of the forest department. The MP was accompanied by many senior Congress leaders.
