TINSUKIA: In response to the call of the central committee of All Assam Civic Bodies Workers' Federation, the municipal employees of Tinsukia branch observed a 2-day strike on Wednesday and Thursday in front of Tinsukia Municipal office in protest against non-fulfilment of various charters of demands.

The five demands on which the municipal employees resorted to sit-in are provincialization of services at par government employees, implementation of cabinet decision of September 4, 2013, staffing pattern to be made public, regularization of services in respect of temporary and fixed pay employees, safai karmis and workers. The demand also included release of arrear salary.

Jyoti Prasad Das, a senior office bearer of the branch, said that due to indifferent attitude of the government, the employees were compelled to take up agitation. He further said that more than 100 employees of Tinsukia Municipality participated in the two-day strike.
