SARUPATHAR: Panic struck the residents of Dhansiri subdivision and nearby areas since 10-12 days after some loud blast-like noise rocked the area and residents felt vibrations in their houses due to unknown reasons. The sound of the blast was heard for several kilometers in the Dhansiri subdivision border area of Assam-Nagaland as well.
However, no untoward incident was reported anywhere and the civil administration of the Dhansiri subdivision also heard the sound of the blast but they could not find any reason behind the sound and vibrations. While the public of the area claimed that it sounded something like a sonic bomb, no such thing has been confirmed by the officials yet. The administration also said the blast was surely heard but no report of any loss or damage has been received.
Meanwhile, after hearing the noise, the residents came out of their houses and found that a large number of birds were disturbed. Several shopkeepers and residents of this region said, “We heard a heavy blast-like sound and the shutters and windows of our shops and houses vibrated as it happens during an earthquake. But we could not understand the reason behind it.”
President Makhmud Ali and general secretary Aboni Sharma of the Journalist Association of Dhansiri subdivision in Golaghat district have appealed to the Subdivisional Officer (SDO) civil to inquire into the matter and resolve it as soon as possible because people, animals, and birds were disturbed and afraid by the loud blast-like noise which has been heard since 10-12 days in this area. As per sources, fighter jets of the Indian Air Force could have caused the loud noise. Sources attempted to confirm the incident from the military officials but no response was received till the filing of this report.
