LAKHIMPUR: In view of empowering women, handloom sets were distributed among 34 weavers under the Dhakuakhana constituency on Sunday. The initiative was undertaken by the Department of Handloom and Textile under the Government of Assam.
On this occasion, a ceremonial programme was organized at the Dhakuakhanasubdivisional office of the Department of Handloom and Textile. Attending the event as chief guest, State Panchayat and Rural Development Department Minister Naba Kumar Doley distributed the handloom sets among the weavers. In his speech, the minister said that the weavers of Dhakuakhana could orient an extensive market with Muga, which is honoured as 'golden thread', products through handloom industry. Dhakuakhana SDO (Civil) Javir Rahul Suresh, senior inspector of the Department of Handloom and Textile, AnantaDutta, LakhimpurZilaParishad chairperson ManjuBurhagohain and BJP State executive member BasantaSaikia were among those who were present in the programme.
