LAKHIMPUR: The foundation stone for the construction of a children's park and a water supply scheme was laid on Friday at the premises of Basudev Than Naruwa Xatra, the noted Vaishnav Peeth of the north-eastern region, located in Dhakuakhana subdivision of Lakhimpur district.
Attending the ceremonial programme as chief guest, State Panchayat and Rural Development (P&RD) minister Naba Kumar Doley laid the foundation stone for both schemes which will be constructed with a fund amounting to Rs 10 lakh sanctioned under Asom Darshan.
Then he took stock of the progress of the ongoing construction works of the main gate of the Xatra along with the tourist building. The minister was assisted by Dhakuakhana SDO (Civil) Javir Rahul Suresh and Ghilamora BDO Rahul Deka. On the same day, the P&RD minister also inspected the ongoing upgradation and construction work of Bebejia Tiniali and Majuli Jengraimukh connecting embankment under IRDF scheme.
In the foundation laying programme, Xatradhikar Bhupendra Deva Goswami, Deka Xatradhikar Bhugendra Deva Goswami, Xatra Development Committee president Durlabh Deva Goswami, Executive Engineer Diganta Gogoi, BJP State executive member Basanta Saikia, BJP Dhakuakhana district committee president Pradip Chamuah and prominent persons and devotees of the Xatra took part.
