NABARD projects credit potential of Rs 1,875.13 crore for Nagaon district

NAGAON: As per the guidelines enumerated in the Lead Bank Scheme, priority sector lending - targets & classification and guidelines for preparation of potential linked credit plans (PLPs), NABARD has prepared the PLPs for all the districts across the country, on an annual basis, since 1989. Continuing the tradition, the PLP for the fiscal year 2023-24 for Nagaon district is prepared by the DDM-Nagaon, Rajendar Perna.

This PLP mapped the developmental potential (existing as well as new activities) available in the district. It highlighted the important functional areas and the support required to be provided (both by the financial institutions and the line departments) for development of these areas, and the district as a whole. In this PLP, emphasis has been laid on augmentation of credit flow for capital formation in agriculture and to create more innovative and newer channels for smooth delivery of rural credit both in farm and non-farm sectors.

The PLP has also highlighted various adaptation and mitigation strategies for promoting climate resilient agriculture. DDM-NABARD, Rajendar Perna prepared the PLP 2023-24 for Nagaon district in accordance with the priorities spelt out by Government of India as well as Government of Assam, RBI and NABARD after numerous consultations with the LDM, the bankers and various line departments under the overall supervision of Narendra Kr. Shah, Deputy Commissioner, Nagaon.

The PLP 2023-24 has been classified into five broad sectors, viz. (i) Agriculture, (ii) MSME, (iii) Export credit, Education & Housing, (iv) Social infrastructure including renewable energy, and (v) others (informal/micro credit). The PLP projection for the year 2023-24 is estimated at Rs.1875.13 crore, comprising of Rs. 1159.92 crore towards agriculture sector, Rs. 610.36 crore for MSME sector and Rs. 104.85 crore towards all other priority sectors.

The PLP 2023-24 for Nagaon district was launched by Nagaon DC on Thursday in presence of ADC Santana Bora, RBI representative Sunita Singh, LDM Khurshid Alam Ansari, representatives of various line departments and bankers of Nagaon district, a release added.
