Nagaon Municipality Board initiates action against selling of single-use plastic

NAGAON: Nagaon Municipality Board has initiated strict action on Monday against the selling, stocks and use of single use plastic carry bags less than 75 micron in thickness and other plastic items less than 120 micron in the small town with immediate effect under sections 6,8 25 of Environment (Protection) Act,1986.

Through a notification issued today by Executive officer of Nagaon Municipality Board alerting the shopkeepers, vendors and other traders of the small town asserted that if anyone found using single use plastic items in the market or in hand, will be immediately imposed spot fine upto Rs 500. The authority concerned has allotted over 30 days to the concerned shopkeepers, vendors and other traders of the town to be ready with cotton bags, jute or bamboo carry bags for selling their items.

It was also stated in the notification that if anybody will dare to violate the rule after 30 days, the authority concerned of the board will not only impose fine upto Rs 500, but also will cancel trade license and also disconnect the power supply, water and other sanitation facilities being availed by the municipality board.

The board prohibited the single use plastic items across the small town through a notification in December last year. Amidst the prohibition in use of single use plastic carry bags, the shopkeepers, vendors and other traders have been using single use plastic carry bags till date across the municipality areas in the town.
