GOALPARA: The Nagarik Samiti, Goalpara has demanded the establishment of a second sub-post office at Goalpara town. Mohammad Ismail, General Secretary of the committee, while talking to this correspondent said, "It has been about thirteen years that the head post office of Goalpara district has been shifted to Bhalukdubi under Kalyanpur gaon panchayat and at present there is only one sub-post office at the town which is not sufficient to serve about sixty thousand people of nineteen municipal wards. For a single revenue ticket one needs to travel four to five kilometers from many areas of the town which is not only costly but also time consuming."

The frontline civil society has appealed the post office authority to consider the demand and extend cooperation to the people of the town. Mention may be made that earlier, the head post office of the town was at Boro Bazar which was one of the oldest post office in Lower Assam. A sub-post office also functioned at the same area for sometime which burnt into ashes few years back. Since then the only sub-post office at ward No. 7, near PHE office is serving the need of the entire town.
