Nalbari DC’s office, Nalbari Medical College declared tobacco-free zones

NALBARI: Under the National Tobacco Control Programme, an effort has been initiated in the district to make about 50 government and non-government educational institutions tobacco-free.

As per the discussion in the District Level Coordination Committee, decision has been made to make the District Commissioner’s Office Campus, Nalbari Medical College campus and district and sub-divisional level offices of all departments tobacco free. In pursuance to that, District Commissioner Varnali Dekaon Tuesday declared the DC’s office premises and Nalbari Medical College premises as tobacco free zone in the presence of Additional Commissioner (Health) AshutoshDeka, Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr Kailash Deka and other officials and staff.

District Commissioner VarnaliDeka urged all government employees and people of the district to shun tobacco products and focus on a controlled and well planned healthy lifestyle. She called upon all institutes to follow the path of Nalbari District Commissioner’s office and make an effort to establish a tobacco-free environment in their respective premises too.

On September 1, the Nalbari District Tobacco Control Cell provided IEC materials at Nalbari Medical College to create awareness among all about the negative consequences of tobacco usage.
