GUWAHATI: Assam Police continues its win in its fight against narcotics in the state. In yet another success story, narcotics worth Rs 15 Crs were captured by a team of Assam Police.
According to reports, a team from Assam Police intercepted a vehicle in the early morning of Saturday. Upon checking the vehicle, a large number of tablets were found hidden in small packets inside the vehicle.
The incident happened during a routine check near the Nazirakhat toll Gate in the Kamrup Metropolitan district of Assam. And the vehicle is said to be a Hyundai i20 bearing registration number DL 7CK 8778. One person was arrested in this regard. The identity of the suspect has been revealed to be Mohammad Ajmal Khan, son of Islamuddin. He is a resident of the Mayaileikai village of the Thoubal district of the state of Manipur and under the Liliong police station.
According to reports, a total of 60000 Yaba Tablets were recovered from various hidden compartments of the i20 vehicle. The total market value of these has been said to be around Rs. 15 Crs, making it one of the major drug busts in recent times. The narcotic pills were smuggled from the neighboring state of Manipur according to some reports.
The team of Assam Police was working under the command of Joint Commissioner of Police Partha Sarthi Mahanta. A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 in regards to the capture.
In recent times, Assam has become one of the major transit points for narcotic substances. Assam Police is working towards making the state completely free from such materials. This has lead capture and seizure of such substances on almost a daily basis. Even after the capture of narcotics worth crores of rupees and arresting hundreds of people in this regard, the menace still continues.
