National Cadet Corps Annual Training Camp kick-starts in Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: National Cadet Corps (NCC), the largest uniformed youth organization in the world is a major contributor in nation building. NCC offers basic military training to the cadets of schools and colleges. The NCC has a two-year training cycle for junior cadets and three year of training for senior cadets. After two years of NCC training, the cadets of schools get 'A' Certificate and the cadets of Senior Division or Senior Wing get 'B' Certificate after completing three years the cadets get 'C' Certificate exam.

These certificates make the NCC cadets eligible for a number of benefits, major being no written exam for entry into armed forces for C certificate holders. In addition, concessions are granted in form of bonus marks by Central Armed Police Organizations such as Assam Rifle BSF, CRPF etc to NCC C Certificate holders. They also get preference in admission for higher education as well as State Government jobs.

This year, the Annual Training Camp kicked off at ITI Women at Chaboti of Lakhimpur district on Monday under the leadership of Colonel J S Cheema, with the assistance of College NCC Officers Dr Subhanjali Das, Dipali Neog, Binita Saharia, Kalyani Konwar and Sub D K Bhai, Hav Johny, Hav Akhil G and GCI Sangita. Colonel JS Cheema informed that all anti-COVID 19 precautions were carried out before and during the camp. All cadets in the camp were screened for temperature and allowed entry after getting hands sanitized and while wearing masks.

The camp started with the arrival of cadets from North Lakhimpur and Dhemaji district and the address by Col J S Cheema, followed by tree plantation and group photo. Then cadets participated in tent pitching. A lecture event and demonstration was held for them by a team of the National Disaster Response Force where they learnt about life-saving skills, evacuation of casualties and first aid. Theory class on national integration was conducted by the caretaker officer. At the end of the day, all cadets left for the day to rejoin with additional cadets on Tuesday.
