National Girl Child Day celebrated in Lakhimpur district

The National Girl Child Day was observed in Lakhimpur district by Health and Family Welfare Department in a befitting manner

LAKHIMPUR: The National Girl Child Day was observed in Lakhimpur district by Health and Family Welfare Department in a befitting manner on Tuesday. The event was organized by the Office of the Additional Medical & Health Officer (Family Welfare) and PCPNDT Department at Kasturba Gandhi Girls' School.

In the event, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Runa Neog took part as chief speaker who explained the significance of the National Girl Child Day and encouraged the students of the school and the girls to go ahead with constant determination and strong attitude. In her lecture, she also threw light upon cyber crime and POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act, 2012, which is an Indian legislation that regulates child sexual abuse. Sub-Divisional Medical Officer (Headquarter) Queen Hazarika delivered lecture on child marriage and its negative impact while Additional Medical & Health Officer (Family Welfare) Tarun Deori delivered lecture on menstrual hygiene.

In connection with the event, drawing and quiz competitions were organized among the students. In the drawing competition, Kashyap Kalita secured first position, Chumi Begum secured second position and Monami Kakati secured third position. On the other hand, Draupadi Murmu's team bagged first prize in quiz competition while Anuradha Sarmah Pujari's team and Sunita William's team bagged the second and third prize respectively. Dr. Jatin Medak, Dr. Renuma Lahon and the teachers of the school attended the event as guests of honour. An awareness rally was also taken out in connection with the event.
