TINSUKIA: The National Human Rights and Crime Control Bureau (NHRCCB) Assam has expressed great concern over the lack of drinking water facility at Marut Nandan Kanan Park (Nau Pukari Park) in Tinsukia even as substantial funds were being allocated for its development under the AMRUT scheme, alleged NHRCCB.
Nishant Thard, state president of NHRCCB, in a memorandum to the Tinsukia District Commissioner, stated that during the preparation and execution of the park’s development project, such a significant component of providing drinking water facility in the park premises was overlooked. The AMRUT scheme, initiated by the Government of India, focuses on improving urban infrastructure with a key emphasis on the provision of essential services like drinking water. The absence of a drinking water facility within the Marut Nandan Kanan Park contradicts the objectives of the AMRUT scheme, and this oversight is not to be taken lightly. Visitors, especially children and elderly individuals, are subjected to discomfort and health risks due to the unavailability of clean drinking water, stated Thard.
The HRCCB urged upon the District Commissioner to personally investigate the matter and to take immediate action to ensure drinking water facility within the park.
