National Press Day observed in Dhubri district, three journalists felicitated

National Press Day was observed by Dhubri District Information and Relation Office in collaboration with the district administration here at the conference hall of Dhubri Zila Parishad in a befitting manner on Tuesday.

DHUBRI: National Press Day was observed by Dhubri District Information and Relation Office in collaboration with the district administration here at the conference hall of Dhubri Zila Parishad in a befitting manner on Tuesday. A meeting was organized under the president ship of Additional Deputy Commissioner Nitya Binod Wary. This year's theme of National Press Day was 'Who is not afraid of media?'

Speaking on the theme, president of Dhubri Journalists' Association, Bijoy Kumar Sharma and veteran academician Pratima Neog as appointed speakers, elaborately explained freedom of the press in independent India and evolution of media from the age of radio to print and electronic and then present social media.

Sharma said that those who do not believe in democracy are not afraid of the media. Neog said that media has privileges and power, but it should be responsible too. However, people are now afraid of a section of media who are misusing power and laws are now needed to control this trend in media, she added.

Like previous years, three journalists - Rajib Choudhury, Ashiqur Rahman and Mrinmoy Deb Adhikari - were felicitated in the meeting with xarai, phulam gamusa and a citation. The meeting was also addressed by Dhubri District Treasury Officer, Dhirendra Kalita while objective of the meeting was explained by Dhubri District Information and Relation Officer, Chidananda Saikia.

On the other hand, Dhubri Sahitya Sabha and Assamese Department of Bholanath College organized National Press Day in the auditorium of the college presided over by veteran academician Tarani Kanta Roy.
