TEZPUR: The National Programme on Climate Change and Human Health (NPCCHH) was launched in Sonitpur district with the objective to create awareness among the general population (vulnerable community), health-care providers and policy makers regarding impact of climate change on human health.
The launch concluded on Tuesday on the occasion of National Science Day with an awareness meeting with various vertical program heads of Health department and a training for Medical Officers and NHM staff at Hotel Center Point, Tezpur, which was the third and final training held as part of the launch of NPCCHH.
Joint Director, Health Services, Dr J Ahmed, DNO NPCCHH, Dr Tilak Bhattacharyya and District Consultant, NPCCHH Sonitpur, Dr Subhalaxmi Borah were present in the programme.
To create awareness about the NPCCHH programmme, IEC materials were distributed among schools, colleges, banks, Hospitals, Medical colleges, etc. on the topic. The programme was formally launched on February 7 with a training imparted to Police Personnel, PRI members, NGOs, media persons, representatives from DFO, Pollution control board, etc, at the Zilla Parishad conference hall.
Deputy Commissioner, Sonitpur, Deba Kumar Mishra had formally inaugurated the programme in the presence of CEO Zilla Parishad, Joint Director Health Services, DNO NPCCHH, District consultant NPCCHH, IDSP Sonitpur and DPMU Sonitpur. Dr Ramesh Bhatta, State Consultant NPCCHH Assam was present as resource person on the occasion.
Some of the objectives identified under NPCCHH are to strengthen capacity of healthcare system to reduce illnesses/ diseases due to variability in climate; to strengthen health preparedness and response by performing situational analysis at national/ state/ district/ below district levels; to develop partnerships and create synergy with other missions and ensure that health is adequately represented in the climate change agenda in the country; to strengthen research capacity to fill the evidence gap on climate change impact on human health.
