LAKHIMPUR: After campaigning on the microblogging site Twitter, the activists of National Students' Union of India (NSUI) took to the streets to demand the cancellation of High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) exam conducted by the Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA) and Higher Secondary exam conducted by the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC).

On Tuesday, the members of the Congress student wing staged protest in North Lakhimpur town near ASTC office and demanded that both exams be scrapped in view of the present adverse situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The protest programme was initiated by the Lakhimpur district unit of the organization, led by district secretary Dibya Chutia, State social media cell chairman Hannan Ahmed and city committee president Samiran Gogoi.

Displaying placards, the protesters demanded the State Government to evaluate the students with an alternative process instead of holding the HSLC and HS exams. According to the protesters, attending the exams physically by the students would be inviting the third wave of COVID-19 contagion. They further demanded the State Government to make an end to the uncertainty over the holding of exams at the earliest, to take a decision in favour of the students and to recover the candidates from mental stress and agony.
