National webinar on 6th Schedule held under the aegis of intelligentsia of Karbi Anglong

HOWRAGHAT: In connection with the observance of Constitution Day, a webinar on the Sixth Schedule with special reference to having separate electoral roll was hosted here on Thursday under the aegis of the intelligentsia of Karbi Anglong.

Dr Lamkholal Doungel, Professor of Mizoram University, Department of Political Science, Trilok Sharma, advocate of Delhi High Court, and John Ingti Kathar, retired IAS officer, took part as esteemed speakers in the national webinar.

Basically, the webinar mainly discussed on whether the Autonomous District Councils or Regional Councils can have their separate electoral roll or not. In his speech, Professor Dr. Lamkholal Doungel presented the seminar with historical facts stating that Sixth Schedule was an exclusive and not inclusive power. He also stated that the Sixth Schedule and other tribal areas could not be compared as the Sixth Schedule was a mini Constitution while some other tribal parts might not be included under Sixth Schedule.
