Haflong: The NC Hills Indigenous Students’ Forum (NCHISF), which has been raising the issue of delay and sub-standard work in the construction of NH-54E Jatinga-Silchar road (Package No.As-21), has demanded stern action against NHAI Project Director of NH-54E Jatinga-Silchar road Package No. As-21 for his utter negligence towards completion of the portion, said David Keivom, president of NCHISF.
Keivom said that since the beginning of four-lane construction, the maintenance work of Jatinga-Silchar road was given to various construction companies and all of them practiced the tradition of engaging subcontractors who had no capacity at all and the subcontractors again engaged small contractors. This compromised the rate and quality of the work.
The NCHISF alleged that since three years the construction company which has been looking after the maintenance work of Jatinga-Silchar road, had not been able to improve the road condition. The NCHISF said that it would not tolerate any compromise in the quality and delay of work as the people had suffered long enough. The student body has demanded the NHAI authority to take all necessary action so that the Rs 54 crore which has been sanctioned for the maintenance work is utilized properly and no fund is misappropriated.
