DHUBRI: N.E.Focus.Com felicitated and accorded the 'Safal Byaktitwar Samman' to the director of the North East Craft and Rural Development Organization (NECARDO), Binoy Bhattacharjee recently. Necardo is a frontline NGO of Northeast India based in Dhubri district.
Besides Bhattacharjee, actor Nipon Goswami , writers Tuna Gautam and Mayur Bora were also felicitated. Bhattacharjee was felicitated and honoured at his Dhubri residence for his contribution during the last three decades for the preservation, promotion and branding of terracotta craft and pottery and development of the craft village Asharikandi in Dhubri, as well as for community development in international border areas, especially Bhogdanga and Fexarkuti Enclave along the Indo-Bangla international border.
The felicitation includes a phulam gamosa, a traditional japi and a citation. Bhattacharjee said that due to activism of NECARDO, clay art had been recognized by the Skill Council of India. The National Skill Development Council (NSDC) and Assam Skill Development Mission (ASDM) have enlisted terracotta and pottery as trade items in skill list. NECARO's rural development model like craft tourism and rural tourism in lower Assam (Asharikandi model) is also remarkable because it has already become a national and international tourist and research scholars' destination.
"The artisans' cooperative society comprising more than 130 families has already received Rs 53 lakh this month from the Government of Assam under 'Mukha Mantrir Tholua Uddog Achoni'. It is another achievement," he added. On the completion of the fourth year of N.E.Focus.Com, it honoured 20 personalities across the State from different fields and Bhattacharjee is one of them.
