GUWAHATI: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that beginning with the 2024–25 academic year, there won't be any board exams for students in Class 10. The choice is in line with how the National Education Policy (NEP 2020) is being put into practice. Matric exams will only be given at the school level instead.

Before, Class 10 board exams were conducted by SEBA, while Class 12 board exams were handled by the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC). But the CM has declared that these two state boards will be combined into one. For students in Class 10, the pass-or-fail system will still be in effect, but Board exams will only be given to students in Class 12.

Meanwhile, in 2021, the Assam Cabinet decided to combine SEBA and AHSEC in order to execute the new National Education Policy, 2020. Following the cabinet meeting in Bongaigaon, the chief minister told a press conference that the state's administration has decided to apply the 5+3+3+4 system.

The basic curriculum will be covered in the first part. The primary course from Class VI to Class VIII will be the second phase. According to CM Sarma, high school classes would be IX–XII.

However, The Assam Higher Secondary (HS) result 2023 was announced on Tuesday (6 June) by the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC). Overall, 84.96% of class 12 science students passed the exam this year, compared to 79.57% of commerce students. Students in the arts stream achieved a pass rate of 70.12%.

Sankalpajit Saikia, a student from Nagaon's Ramanujan Senior Secondary School, earned 490 out of a possible 490 points to secure First rank in the Arts stream. Nikhilesh Dutta, a non-institutional private applicant, scored top rank in the Science stream with a score of 484.

With combined scores of 472, Varsha Bothra of KC Das Commerce College in Kamrup (Metro) and Sukanya Kumar of Malayabari Senior Secondary School in Kamrup (Metro) have taken first place in the Commerce stream.
