JAMUGURIHAT: The 32nd constitutional recognition day of the Nepali language convened by North Jamuguri branch of Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha in association with the North Jamuguri branch of All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union was observed at the Bordikorai High School premises on Sunday with a day-long programme with Dambaru Acharya in the chair.
The day-long programme began with hoisting of the institutional flags of Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha and AAGSU by Dambaru Acharya and Hemu Limbu, presidents of the organizing committees respectively, followed by plantation drive inaugurated by Dipak Newar. Bedanidhi Adhikari and Hemu Limu offered floral tributes in memory of the martyrs of the language movement while Sadananda Sarma, former principal of Rangachakuwa HSS, offered garlands in front of the portraits of the martyrs. The open session was began with a chorus followed by a multilingual poetry circle.
The poets’ circle was inaugurated by Rajen Joshi while eminent dramatist Bal Bir Gurung graced the poetry circle as an analyzer wherein more than 40 poets readout their self-composed poems. Anjan Baskota, recipient of Sahitya Akademi’s Yuva Puraskar 2020, graced the occasion as an appointed speaker who traced the history of the language movement and discussed about some educational issues of the Nepali language in relation to NEP 2020 along with other issues pertaining to teaching and learning of the language in the state. Anil Goutam and Dipak Subba, presidents of Sonitpur district Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha and Sonitpur district AAGSU, also addressed the session as guests of honour. A series of cultural activities were performed in between the programmes.
