New agricultural technologies displayed at farmers' fair in Tezpur

TEZPUR: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sonitpur has organized a day-long farmers' fair-cum-exhibition at KVK campus to display the new agricultural technologies for the welfare of farming community.

Under the guidance of Angana Sarmah, (i/c) Head, KVK, Sonitpur, a group of B.Sc.(Agri) students from Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat undergoing RAWEP programme displayed various live models and demonstrated various agricultural innovative technologies developed by Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat.

In her welcome speech, Sarmah elaborated the need of demonstrating such technologies for a continuous and sustainable income under the changing scenario of climate change. The exhibition was inaugurated by Dr Jayanta Deka, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, AAU, Jorhat by lighting the lamp in presence of Dr Pramod Chandra Deka, Principal CEO, CBBO-AAU, Horticultural Research Station, Kahikuchi, Guwahati, Dr. Kaushik Das, Professor, Department of Crop Physiology, AAU, Jorhat, Dr. Hiranya Debnath, Assistant Professor, Department of Plant Protection, AAU, Jorhat and Naren Sarmah, SDAO, Sonitpur.

While addressing the farmers, Dr. Jayanta Deka focused on important milestones in agricultural development since independence of the country such as green revolution, use of ICT in agriculture, advancement in mechanization and soil health management. Department of Energy, Tezpur University also demonstrated their farmer-friendly technologies in the exhibition.

In the inaugural programme two progressive farmers of the district, namely Nilam Dutta, owner of Pabhoi Greens-an organic seed producing farm, and Pankaj Hazarika, executive member of Kanyaka Farms, were felicitated for their significant contributions in agricultural sector. Amrit Madhuri Devi, owner of Madhur food products and Naba Sarmah, Secretary of Chitralekha SHG, Napam were also felicitated for their contribution towards livelihood security of farming community.

Jipal, an agri based magazine was also inaugurated during the technical session prepared by the RAWEP students. During wrap-up session, Naren Sarmah, SDAO, Sonitpur called upon the farming community to participate in large numbers in such farmers fairs and discuss about farm related issues.
