NEW DELHI: In a significant development, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has approved an allocation of land spanning 4000 square meters for the construction of a new Assam Bhawan in the Dwarka area. This expansion marks a significant increase from the originally sanctioned 1000 square meters, highlighting the project's growing importance in serving the needs of the Assamese people in the capital city.
Ranjeet Kumar Dass, the Assam cabinet minister for Panchayat and Rural Development, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, General Administration, and Law and Justice Department, enthusiastically shared this news via his social media platform. He expressed his excitement, stating, "New beginnings in the heart of Delhi! Delhi Development Authority allotted 4000 Sqm of prime land in Dwarka to the Govt of Assam for a new Assam Bhawan. The Department has already issued a Financial Sanction and Ceiling Amount of Rs. 32,30,34,892 for the land. It will undoubtedly be a valuable asset in the days ahead."
The new Assam Bhawan is anticipated to be a crucial addition to Delhi's landscape. With a total estimated cost of Rs. 32 crore, this project is set to become a hub of cultural and administrative activities for the Assamese community living in Delhi and beyond. The expansion from the originally allotted 1000 square meters to 4000 square meters underscores the commitment to providing a state-of-the-art facility to cater to the diverse needs of people from Assam.
The Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, had earlier laid the foundation stone for this project back in April of the same year. At that time, the proposed Assam House was intended to be 1000 square meters in size. Chief Minister Sarma emphasized the critical role of the new Assam House, saying, "the new Assam House will cater to the needs of patients and students while the other two will be used by officials."
This development is particularly crucial as it addresses the growing demand for facilities to support patients and students hailing from Assam. A substantial number of patients from Assam regularly travel to Delhi for medical treatment for various ailments. Additionally, a significant cohort of students from Assam comes to the national capital to pursue their educational aspirations. Therefore, the expanded Assam Bhawan will serve as a valuable resource for these individuals, offering a familiar and supportive environment away from home.
The existing Assam House and Assam Bhavan are currently located in Chanakyapuri. The expansion of the Assam Bhawan in Dwarka to 4000 square meters reaffirms the commitment of the Assam government to cater to the growing needs of its people in Delhi. With its strategic location and increased capacity, this facility is poised to become a prominent landmark and an essential support system for the Assamese community in Delhi, providing a multitude of services and promoting Assamese culture and heritage.
The extension of land allocated for the new Assam Bhawan in Delhi, combined with the earlier foundation laying by the Assam Chief Minister, highlights a significant commitment to better serve the Assamese community, especially patients and students, in the capital city. This expansion signifies a promising new chapter in the heart of Delhi, with the Assam Bhawan poised to become a valuable asset for years to come.
