GUWAHATI: Mongeet, the dream festival of several exponents from the field of music, tourism and food is coming up with a new edition in the coming week in two locations of the state. It will be hosted on December 15, 16 and 17 in Majuli and on December 19 and 20 in Sadiya.
Mongeet is the product of the ideas of Adil Hussain, a popular Bollywood actor from Assam and Kaushik Nath, an expert in the field of tourism in the state. The first version of Mongeet: The Soul Songs Festival was hosted with a limited number of participants in the Dekasang resort in Majuli.
This unique festival aims to provide a platform for the budding artists of the region. Apart from showcasing their talents, artists and enthusiast can get guidance and mentorship from noted musicians including Angarag Papon Mahanta, Joi Barua, Tarali Sharma, Kalyan Baruah, Dhrubajyoto Phukan, Anurag Saikia and Nilotpal Bora.
Kaushik Nath, one of the founders of the event mentioned, "we accept entries in all genres — hip-hop, rap and rock — and have no age limit for musicians because we feel music has no age. The response has been outstanding. From 20 finalists, we had to double the number on account of the response. The participants can jam with the panellists and perform on stage with them."
The 2023 edition of Mongeet will be organised on January 15, 16, and 17 at Dekasang Majuli followed by the event on January 19 and 20 at Dekasang Sadiya. This year the participants will also witness Montulika – a creative painting workshop and Monmritikka – a special workshop on the rich art and sculpture of Assam. Chef Atul Lahkar will also be a part of this year's celebration to provide a masterclass on the traditional cuisines of the region. It will be an attempt to promote the music, art, culture and food of the state under one roof.
