DOOMDOOMA: The new executive body of Tinsukia Zila Sahitya Sabha (TZSS) for 2020-22 was announced in its executive committee meeting held at Zila Sahitya Sabha office at Makum on Saturday.
Election Officer Saumitra Gogoi declared the results after counting of ballot papers in front of the executive members. Accordingly, Arjun Baruah was elected president, Taranga Malla Baruah as vice-president and Manoram Gogoi as secretary. On the other hand, the executive committee meeting held under the presidentship of Dr Girish Handique resolved to oppose the CAB as per resolution taken in Axam Xahitya Xabha’s Raha conference. It was also resolved that if AXX failed to take a firm stand in the matter then Tinsukia Zila Sahitya Sabha would decide its own course of action. TZSS staged a sit-in in front of Tinsukia Sakha Sahitya Sabha Bhavan on Friday in protest against CAB and organized a protest meeting there. It also submitted a memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister, opposing CAB through the Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia on the same day. Besides declaration of results of the new executive body at the district office of TZSS at Makum, Doomdooma Sakha Sahitya Sabha was adjudged as its best branch.
