KOKRAJHAR: The National Boro Christian Council (NBCC) held its annual general council meeting at the centenary guest house of BBC, Udalguri with a two-day programme recently. The house appreciated the services of the outgoing administrative officers of the NBCC and welcomed the newly-inducted administrative officers for the term 2020 - 2023. The house prayed for abundant blessings for both the outgoing and the incoming administrative officers. The new president, general secretary and finance secretary are Rev Dr. Arjun Basumatary (from Kokrajhar), Apurba Narzary and Nabin Ch. Narzary (both from Gossaigaon) respectively.
Rev. Dr. Arjun Basumatary, while talking to this correspondent, said that the NBCC was very grateful to the Boro Christian Board (BCB) for founding it in 1994 with an aim to tackle the issue of religious violence and to safeguard the religious rights of minorities and to protect a secular state where all religions would continue to enjoy freedom of exercise and expression.
The NBCC is an umbrella association with a non-political character formed by Boro Christians belonging to various denominations, both from Catholic and Protestant traditions, to act in unison to protect the rights and privileges of all persons who have accepted Lord Jesus as their own personal saviour as per the provisions laid down in the Constitution of India, he added. Basumatary said that the NBCC also focused on building a wider community through its peace and harmony and development activities.
NBCC successfully organized the Festival of Peace and Harmony in 2017 at Besorgaon, Kokrajhar with Prof. Rev. Dr. RB Lal, Vice-Chancellor, SHUATS, Allahabad, Gospel Singer Bro. Vijay Benedict, Mumbai, and Prof. Rt. Rev. Dr. DK Sahu, Bishop and Director, SHUATS, as chief guests. It was also attended by the chief of BTC (present BTR) who thanked the NBCC for organizing the event.
