New Gangjema Bazar set up by Kokrajhar Municipal Board to ease traffic snarl in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: In a laudable effort of Kokrajhar Municipal Board (KMB), a new Gangjema market complex at Jwhwlao Dwimalu Road in Kokrajhar town is likely to lessen the traffic snarl in the town. Traffic woes in Kokrajhar town become a matter of concern due to the increasing number of vehicles and thus the KMB compels to shift the existing ‘Maldang Bazar’ to newly inaugurated Gangjema Bazar complex.

The EM of Urban Development, BTC, Doneswar Goyary formally inaugurated the new market complex built under KMB on Thursday. He said in his short speech that traffic congestion has become a regular phenomenon due to growing number of vehicles. The daily markets on the road side in Kokrajhar town are adding the traffic woes which also cause increasing of road accidents, he said adding that the Urban Development department has decided to upgrade the standard of important roads under KMB of Kokrajhar town. He said the new market complex Gangjema Bazar will accommodate the small and marginal vendors who have been selling vegetables and others on the open road side.

Goyary said the people of Kokrajhar will enjoy the new market complex as it has enough space for parking and other facilities. He also said the department will look into the disposal of garbage and other waste materials.

The Chairman of KMB Bishnu Narzary said the new market complex have all required amenities and it was designed by Helina Boro, an architect. He said all the waste materials of the market would be collected twice everyday and would be taken for segregation while the foul smell of meat and fish would be salvaged with scientific method which would be made edible for pig and poultry farms. He also said the KMB will collect minimum levy for maintenance from the vendors.

The grand opening programme was also attended by the Council Head of the Department (CHD), Urban Development Nibedita Hazarika, ex-president of Kokrajhar Merchant Association Bikash Basumatary (Laloo) and others.
