New Mangaldai Municipal Board chairperson assures transparent and corruption-free civic body

MANGALDAI: Nirmali Devi Sharma, the newly-elected chairperson of Mangaldai Municipal Board (MMB) has assured a transparent and corruption-free civic body in the days to come.

"I am not going to make any promise of development before you as I could see what was done in the previous days by the people who had made the tall promises. But I assure you a transparent and corruption-free municipal board so long I will be heading the board," she firmly said.

She was addressing a well-attended public meeting on the campus of the historic 'Maa Kali' temple at Ward No 1, Santipara on Thursday evening. The meeting was organized by the people of the locality of the ward from which she was elected, to offer her greetings and felicitation on becoming the first lady chairperson of the 65-year old urban local body representing the Ward No 1 where the office of the board itself is located. The new chairperson, who is known as a popular drama and TV artiste and a lawyer by profession, was offered felicitation with a letter of citation, a traditional Assamese japi and a gamosa.

On the other hand, chairperson Nirmali Devi Sharma also offered her respect and gratitude to the elderly and leading citizens of the locality by offering a gamosa each.

Leading citizens including Dr Prasanta Goswami, Dr Durgeswar Sarma, Ratish Choudhury, Jyoti Sarma, Amarjyoti Deka and others taking part in the function offered their greetings and assured her to extend all cooperation in decorating Mangaldai town with a new design.

In the beginning, Mayukh Goswami on behalf of the organizers offered a welcome speech and explained the objectives while Chandra Sekhar Roy and Nilima Saharia gave musical performances to add more colour to the evening.
