New SOP ahead of New Year: Not more than 50 people allowed in private parties

As a partial modification of the guidelines issued yesterday, the Assam Police released new guidelines today concerning social gatherings in the festive season.

Guwahati: In a revised COVID-19 guideline issued by the Assam police, government has put restrictions on private gatherings during Christmas and New Year celebrations. Not more than 50 people can be present at any such private get togethers or parties. The revised guidelines issued just a while back comes within hours of the administration issuing a fresh set of SOPs.

The revised guidelines as was said earlier, will be in force until January 10. The Assam Police announced these partial modifications in a tweet from their official handle.

The revised guideline further makes it a rule to not exceed the 50% marker in any public gathering which shall take place in an enclosed space. In case of organizing social functions, the guidelines have clearly asked organizers for mandatory COVID tests, sanitization and wearing of masks. 

Addressing the media, State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma further clarified that as far as outdoor gatherings are concerned the government has not put a number to it as people have been gathering outdoors. The Minister did reiterate the need to maintain social distance and wearing of masks in outdoor get togethers . He did mention about the capping of number of people at 50 for all indoor get togethers.

The guidelines however do not prohibit any religious festivities, and encourages to conduct them inside homes. Even in religious functions, practicing social distancing and adhering to other mandated Covid protocols has been prioritized by the authorities.
