New SOP Tomorrow, Relaxations On Inter-District Movement in Assam

GUWAHATI: Assam Government is set to release a new set of COVID-19 Standard Operating Protocol(SOP) with more relaxations on the cards, at 11 am, tomorrow, September 1.

Informing this Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "A new set of SOP would be published at 11 am, September 1. Health Minister Keshab Mahanta will release these SOP in a press conference."

Earlier, the Chief Minister hinted that the government may announce some relaxations in the SOP.

The Chief Minister also held a discussion on the COVID-19 pandemic situation in the state with all the Deputy Commissioner(DC)s yesterday.

During the discussion, he instructed the DC to speed up vaccinations in their respective districts. Meanwhile, sources hinted that the government is likely to announce some relaxation on inter-district movement in the new SOP.

Inter-district passenger buses' movement has been suspended since the onslaught of the COVID-19 second wave. Various sections of the people have been demanding to lift the restrictions.

Likewise, the government is mulling to reopen the educational institutes from September since the pandemic situation has been marking an improvement.

Sources also told that normal life may resume in the state from September. However, the government may keep some restrictions including the night curfew in place.

"The timing of night curfew may be changed. Wearing of mask in public places will not be lifted," sources hinted.
