SILCHAR: Jogendra Pandey, the SBI Audit official, prime accused in Kuldeep Dasgupta’s mysterious death, had allegedly been threatening the bank employees whose statements to the police went against him, the family of the young branch manager alleged. Cachar police confirmed that Pandey, after granted bail by Guwahati High Court arrived at Sonai PS to lodge FIR against a few SBI employees who during the investigation stated that the Audit officer did misbehaved and insulted Dasgupta. Sonai Police, however, refused to register the FIR as Sonai PS OC Mahatma Manas Handique said, Pandey’s version lacked sufficient substance.

Body of Kuldeep Dasgupta, the young manager of SBI Kabuganj branch was found hanging inside the record room of the office on January 7 this year. Dasgupta left no suicide note. But his mother Aloka Dasgupta lodged an FIR with Sonai PS alleging that Jogendra Pandey who had come to Barak Valley for internal audit of the SBI branches, had been pressuring her son. Pandey forced Dasgupta to buy him an iPhone, costly furniture, and even ticket for an international cricket match in Guwahati. Police found prima facie evidence against Pandey and later arrested him from a Guwahati bound train at Silchar railway station. Pandey’s bail petition was rejected by a Silchar court, he was even sent to judicial custody. Later they moved Guwahati High Court for bail, which was eventually granted at second attempt.

Pinak Roy, brother-in-law of Kuldeep said, they had received the information that Pandey had been allegedly threatening some bank employees for giving statement against him. Pandey even went to Sonai PS to lodge FIR against those employees. Family of Dasgupta appealed to the Silchar CJM to look into the matter. However, the petition was not accepted as Guwahati High Court had granted him bail.

Meanwhile, sources said, the SBI authority had started auditing of the bank transaction of Kuldeep Dasgupta’s personal account. Finding that some amounts were credited to his account, the SBI had reportedly sent mails to the persons who had monetary transaction with Dasgupta. Ajay Sharma, the Guwahati based friend of Kuldeep told this correspondent that he was contacted by Dispur branch of the SBI. “Kuldeep took Rs one lakh from me when his sister was seriously ill during the pandemic. I deposited the amount to his mother’s account. Later Kuldeep repaid the loan from his own account”, Sharma clarified.

Meanwhile, Cachar SP Nomal Mahatta informed that chargesheet in the case had been prepared and would be submitted to the court within a few days. A section of SBI on the condition of anonymity said, Pandey was arrested, sent to judicial custody, his bail petition was rejected several times both in Silchar CJM court as well as in High Court, yet he was not even put under suspension. It was clear violation of Service Rules, they alleged.
