Newly-elected Ward Commissioners, chairpersons, deputy chairpersons of NLMB take oath

LAKHIMPUR: The newly-elected Ward Commissioners of North Lakhimpur Municipal Board (NLMB) took oath on Wednesday. On this occasion, a ceremonial programme was organized in the conference hall of the NLMB office. In the programme, Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur, Sumit Sattawan administered the oath to the newly-elected 21 Ward Commissioners of the NLMB.

Notably, achieving stunning victory in the recent Municipal Board Election, ruling party BJP and its alliance party AGP constituted the NLMB. In this district headquarter civic body, BJP has 14 Ward Commissioners while AGP has one Ward Commissioner. On the other hand, one Ward Commissioner of Congress out of 3, namely Heena Rahman of Ward No. 14 (D) and one independent Ward Commissioner, namely Trishna Das Saikia of Ward No. 2(B) joined BJP on Tuesday at the district office of the party. With these two newcomers, the number of Ward Commissioners of BJP-AGP alliance has increased up to 17.

In the ceremonial programme, these 17 Ward Commissioners formally selected Nibenita Dutta, the Ward Commissioner of 3(A) as chairperson of NLMB while Prashanta Pratim Dutta as deputy chairperson. The Deputy Commissioner also administered oath to them as chairperson and deputy chairperson. The oath-taking ceremony was attended by Lakhimpur MLA Manab Deka, who is also the member of the NLMB by dint of post, NLMB Executive Officer Casio Karan Pegu, BJP Lakhimpur district unit president Phanidhar Baruah and other officers of the district administration.

On the same day, the newly-elected 10 Ward Commissioners of Bihpuriya Municipal Board also took oath. District Development Commissioner (DDC) of Lakhimpur, Manoj Kumar Baruah administered the oath to the Ward Commissioners. Ruling party BJP has also constituted the Bihpuriya Municipal Board with 8 Ward Commissioners out of 10. Ward Commissioner of Ward No. 3, Deepsikha Borah and Ward Commissioner of Ward No. 8, Rupali Lodh Dey have been selected as chairperson and deputy chairperson of the Bihpuriya Municipal Board respectively.

On the other hand, the Narayanpur Municipal Board of the district was also constituted on Wednesday. Though the Congress party emerged as the majority party in this civic body, finally BJP has managed to constitute this municipal board too by achieving majority with the joining of two independent and one Congress Ward Commissioners. Out of the seven Ward Commissioners of BJP, Harish Chandak, who won from Ward No. 5(B), was selected as chairperson and Ward Commissioner of Ward No. 3 (A), Biraj Bhuyan was selected as deputy chairperson. DDC Manoj Kumar Baruah administered the oath to the newly-elected Ward Commissioners, chairperson and deputy chairperson of Narayanpur Municipal Board.

Bihpuriya MLA Dr. Amiya Kumar Bhuyan, Bihpuriya College Principal Dr. Amulya Hazarika, academician Girish Bhuyan, Naba Dutta, social workers Manoj Sarmah, Arunjyoti Morang were among those who were present in the oath-taking ceremony. Notably, the Ward Commissioners of Dhakuakhana Municipal Board will take oath on Thursday.
