DHUBRI: As COVID-19 positive cases continue to rise, Kalpataru and Dhubri Kedriya Bihu Udjapan Samiti jumped into action to create awareness along with distribution of masks in Dhubri district, including border villages where hardly any NGO ventures.

Director of Kalpataru, a non-governmental organization, Suchibrata Singha Choudhury informed that the activists went out with thousands of masks to the border villages where awareness level about COVID-19 was found to be poor.

"We the activists of Kalpataru visited Bhogdanga,Rakhalpath, Dhabarghat, Dumordah and Uttar Raipur border villages and when we interacted with the villagers about COVID-19, we found that they are absolutely unaware about taking precautions like wearing masks, maintaining social distancing and washing hands regularly," Choudhury added.

General secretary of Dhubri Kedriya Rongali Bihu Udjapan Samiti, Simul Sarkar, while distributing masks among the people with vice-president of the Samiti, Pranabasish Roy, expressed serious concern over the lack of awareness among a large section of people about COVID-19 protocol.

"I have not seen COVID protocol being observed by people standing in the queue for vaccination nor those in banks and market places. This will add to the woes of the people if protocols are not enforced strictly now," Sarkar rued.

Dhubri Deputy Commissioner, in view of counting of votes, declared Dry Day in the district prohibiting sale of liquor in retail outlets and bars on Sunday.
