NIA Files Chargesheet Against Five ULFA-I Members In Guwahati Grenade Blast Case

The case is about an incident of two ULFA-I cadres placing a grenade at a police event near Central Mall, RGB Road in Guwahati in which at least 12 persons had sustained injuries

GUWAHATI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a supplementary chargesheet at the NIA Special Court, Guwahati against five members of the ULFA-I in the RGB Road, Guwahati grenade blast case.

The accused persons – Pappu Koch Bokoliyal alias Bijoy Asom, Amrit Ballav Goswami, Paresh Baruah alias Paresh Asom, Arunodoy Dahotiya alias Bijit Gogoi and Munna Baruah alias Munna Asom have been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and UA(P) Act for their role in the conspiracy of RC-04/2019/NIA/GUW.

The case is about an incident of two ULFA-I cadres lobbying a grenade at a police party near Central Mall, RGB Road in Guwahati in which at least 12 persons had sustained injuries. Paresh Baruah, the self-styled commander-in-chief of the outfit had taken responsibility of the terror attack.

It may be mentioned that Assam has witnessed a number of grenade blasts in the last few years. One person lost his life and three others were seriously injured in a grenade attack in Tingrai market in Digboi in May this year.. According to eyewitness accounts, two miscreants had come in a bike and hurled a grenade that fell inside a hardware shop. The shop is owned by Turonmal Agarwal.

Narrating the whole incident Turonmal Agarwal had said, "Just when I was about to shut the shop at 1 PM (on May 14), a customer came to my shop asking for a socket. By the time I got back with the socket, a loud explosion happened and then the next thing I see is my customer lying on the ground screaming 'I am dying'. One of my shop employees also got hurt and two persons from the next shop were also injured".
