DISPUR:

The spat between Assam Congress Legislative Leader Debabrata Saikia and former Congress minister Nilamoni Sen Deka has escalated.

Former minister Deka joked to the CLP leader that he would one day be president of Axom Xahitya Xabha. Earlier, Saikia mocked the former minister, claiming that he (Deka) had been busy reading books at the Assam assembly library.

When confronted with the party colleague's assault, the former minister responded angrily. "Nobody could keep me back foot from becoming the Assam Xahitya Xabha president. I will adore the post. I will write ten more books this year. These books will be released in the assembly conference hall. In the meantime, I have taken permission from the Speaker for that," he added.

Deka also took a jibe on APCC president Ripun Bora and said, "I am a small man. I do not possess knowledge like Debabrata Saikia and Ripun Bora. They could run a political party. But I write books."

Following his attack, CLP leader Saikia joked that Deka should be the president of the Axom Xahitya Xabha.

In another news, yesterday Dr. Jury Sharma Bordoloi, president of the Guwahati City Congress Committee, resigned from the Congress party on Friday. Jury Sharma Borodloi, speaking at a news conference in Guwahati, claimed that the Congress has lost its secular identity and has become a sectarian party. She claimed that the Congress high command ignored their opposition to the AIUDF alliance. Jury Sharma Bordoloi also claimed that Rahul Gandhi's leadership is being rejected by many party leaders and members. According to her, it is a bad move to keep projecting Rahul Gandhi as the leader. Along with Dr. Sharma Bordoloi, several more Guwahati Congress stalwarts have left the party.

Similarly, MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi has yesterday resigned from the assembly and blamed the party leadership for its performance in Assam Election 2021. "I'm leaving Congress as High Command in Delhi & Guwahati leaders give priority to elderly leaders only. We'd told them Congress has good chance of coming to power this time & we shouldn't forge alliance with AIUDF as it would be a mistake. It indeed was," said the Assam MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi.
