Jorhat: In a tragic incident in Assam, two ferries collided in the mighty Brahmaputra river and capsized. The ferries were carrying over 100 passengers. One of the boats made attempts to save the passengers of the other boat that was sinking. While some have been rescued, many are still missing and are feared dead.

The body of one of the victims of the Assam boat accident was found by rescue workers. She is the first victim whose death has been registered. The deceased is identified as Parimita Das of Kahilipara, Guwahati. She was taken to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital as soon as her body was found but the doctors had declared her brought dead.

Parimita was a student of Jatiya Vidyalaya School, Guwahati. She completed her under-graduation from Cotton University. She was working as an assistant professor at Rangachahi College in Majuli. She was on her way to Majuli (as the re-opening of schools and colleges was announced), when the Assam boat accident took place.

Her mother said, "She was happy and excited to go back to college."

"I even told her not to go and continue taking her classes online. But she went and never returned then after," she added.

Right before leaving, Parimita had updated her status which said "Riniki Riniki". These words are taken from a popular song by Nilotpal Bora. The song describes the essence of Majuli. This is the reference Parimita borrowed to express her love for the mighty Brahmaputra river in her final WhatsApp status.

Meanwhile, 42 people have been reported to have been rescued while some are still missing.
