Guwahati: Pragjyoti Communications, a leading social-environmental organisation of the State had organized the World Environment Day with a day-long programme for the 9th occasions in a row at Mayong Anchalik College near Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary. The programme included a massive plantation/ drive with some valuable saplings by Mayong’s traditional king Tarani Kanta Singha, College Principal Dr. Mahananda Borah, Pobitora Wildlife Santuary Ranger Mukul Tamuli and President of Pragjyoti Communications Dipanka Hazarika and by some environmental workers, stated a press release.
The ninth edition of Environmental and Forest Journal ‘Pobitora’ edited by Dipanka Hazarika was also released by Rhino Man Julin Baruah along with dignitaries and kids. Cutting of a cake symbolising Pobitora and one-horned rhino of Assam was an added attraction of the programme. A nature procession participated by students, teachers and communities with slogans and placards on nature was held along with the performance of a street drama by students at Mayang market. A large number of students of Mayang and adjoining areas also took part in the drawing, essay competition on the subject of Pobitora and environment. An open environmental session was held and addressed by Rituraj Borah, Deputy Commissioner of Morigaon district at the end.
