NIT Silchar fiasco: 20 students face action for beating a junior student

SILCHAR: NIT Silchar had taken strict action against 20 students who were allegedly involved in a case of beating a junior student recently. A notice signed by the Dean and the students’ welfare branch. Five students had been suspended from their current semester while five others were asked to leave their hostel for one month. The NIT authority had however issued warning letters to the other students involved in the incident.

On March 31, a group of senior students teamed up to physically assault a fourth semester student named Siddhanta Potto. He was rescued by some teachers and was badly injured. Later, Siddhanta was admitted to hospital. Sudip Potto, father of Siddhanta later filed an FIR against 18 students.
