SILCHAR: Hitting at the 'double engine governments' in Delhi and Dispur, the TMC Rajya Sabha MP Susmita Dev said, the 31 kilometre stretch between Balacherra and Harangajao would not be complete even in next four years. Dev, who represented Silchar in Lok Sabha, visited the critical site in Mahasadak on Sunday to inspect the progress of the roadwork which would connect Barak Valley with the rest of the country in a much better way. In 2021, Union Roadways Minister Nitin Gadkari in public rally in Silchar announced that the remaining stretch of Mahasadak between Balacherra and Harangajao would be complete by 2023. However apart from most critical Balacherra-Harangajao stretch, construction work between Harangajao to Mahur (50km) was yet to be completed.

During her Mahasadak visit, Susmita Dev discussed the progress of the work with the officials of the construction company. They however assured her that by April 2023 the project would be complete and vehicles could ply as construction of 31 bridges of various sizes and 97 culverts in different parts of stretch had lessened the distance at least by 25 kilometres. Base work of almost all the bridges was complete. The specially designed guardwall measuring 11 kilometres would protect the road from heavy shower and landslides, the officials of the construction company updated Dev.
