GUWAHATI : Assam minister UG Brahma Monday expressed his views on the ongoing demand put forward by Kamatapur Liberation Organisation for a separate Kamatapur state. Kamatapur Liberation Organisation (KLO) is a banned armed rebel group who are rooting for an individual state for Kamtapur.

The KLO is urging for an individual state that will include parts of Cooch Behar, Malda, Uttar Dinajpur and Jalpaiguri districts of West Bengal and those of Goalpara and Kokrajhar district of Assam. UG Brahma stated that the interest of the people of Assam will forever remain intact.

The CM of Assam has expressed his disinterest on the demand for a separate state by KLO, UG Brahma repeatedly emphasised on the fact that the state administration will never grant the formation of a new Kamatapur state.

The minister further mentioned that, the Government of India will set up arrangements to preserve and protect language and culture by making the Kamatapur Autonomous Council of Assam more strong.

On the other hand, a member of KLO, Biswajit Rai on 22nd of January announced that KLO chief Jeevan Singh will not step back from the demand of separate state for Kamatapur. This particular demand is a long-standing call of the Koch-Rajbongshi people, he said.

Rai further added that KLO Chief Jeevan Singh had returned to the mainstream, based on the assurance made by the central government. He emphasised on the fact that on 26th of January, Koch-Rajbongshis' demand for a carved- out state will be fulfilled.

Further, while talking about the recent development and growth of the state, especially Assam's cultural market, UG Brahma mentioned about Assamese Gamosa that has received the GI tag. Also, he mentioned that the Aronai of the Bodo community will also gain the GI tag real soon. Efforts are being made to ensure that all the indigenous textiles of Assam will be given the GI tag in the coming days, he added.
