TINSUKIA: As many as 13 elected members out of 16 members of Hapjan Anchalik Panchyat in Tinsukia district expressed no-confidence motion against its president Rup Kumar Tanti after he allegedly awarded contracts to his kith and kin without maintaining official protocol. This move by the aggrieved members created ripples in the district BJP circle.
In a letter to the Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia on August 25, the aggrieved members stated that the president never took the members into confidence and awarded contracts against various schemes to his close acquaintances. Besides, he recently completed tendering process for canteen and pond without holding AP meeting.
Later, on August 28, the members Joy Kishan Gowala of Hahsora GP, Junmoni Chetia Borah of Hapjan GP, Chita Mazumder Borah of Tipuk GP, Rukhmoni Patra of Hatijan GP, Dipak Koya of Daidham GP, Jyoti Tandia of Kordoiguri, Anil Moran of Tingrai GP, Kamal Duarah of Barekuri, Rudra Tanti of Borhapjan and Hemanta Mura of Panikhowa convened a press meet in which they informed that they had brought no-confidence motion against the president as he did not hold any meeting during the past one-and-half years and distanced himself from sharing information with the members.
In between, a ruckus surfaced in the political circle after Rup Kumar Tanti lodged an FIR against Heri Pol Fernandes, the BDO of Hapjan Development Block, for his alleged involvement in corruption.
