LAKHIMPUR: No nomination paper of any candidate in the four Legislative Assembly Constituencies (LAC) of Lakhimpur district, viz— No. 109 Bihpuriya LAC, No. 110 Naoboicha LAC, No.111 Lakhimpur LAC and No. 112 Dhakuakhana LAC, was cancelled on Wednesday. The Election Commission of India (ECI) scheduled March 10 as the date for the scrutiny of the nomination papers for the first phase of Assam Legislative Assembly (ALA) election. As such, the nomination papers of the candidates, who have extended their candidature for the poll fray in the four LACs of the district, were scrutinized thoroughly on Wednesday in the offices of the respective Returning Officers. During the scrutiny, no flaw in the nomination papers of any candidate was found.
In the district, a total of 35 candidates of the major political parties of the State, including independent candidates, filed their nominations till Tuesday. Out of them, seven candidates filed their nominations in Bihpuriya LAC while 14 candidates filed the same in Naoboicha LAC. On the other hand, eight candidates filed the nominations in Lakhimpur LAC and six candidates filed nominations in Dhakuakhana LAC. The ECI scheduled March 12 as the last date for the withdrawal of candidature.
