No Separate SOP For Saraswati Puja, Says Keshab Mahanta

The minister urged people to celebrate the festival with proper COVID appropriate behaviour such as wearing masks and maintaining social distancing in order to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Guwahati: Assam Health and Family Welfare Minister Keshab Mahanta on Sunday stated that the state government will not issue any new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for celebration of Saraswati Puja.

While interacting with media persons at Bokakhat, the minister said the Saraswati Puja will have to be celebrated by following the COVID protocols issued earlier.

''The new SOP will be issued on February 1 but it will not include any new guidelines for Saraswati Puja celebrations,'' he added.

The minister further urged people to celebrate the festival with proper COVID appropriate behaviour such as wearing masks and maintaining social distancing in order to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Notably, the state has witnessed slightly dip in COVID-19 cases.

On Saturday, Assam saw 2.294 new cases of COVID-19, taking the active case load of 28,788.

With this, the positivity rate stood at 6.41 percent.
