LAKHIMPUR: North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) and the Assamese Department of this reputed college of the entire northeast region have established a new milestone in the academic field of the State. The Assamese Department of the college has introduced the PhD course from this year by continuing the trend of academic achievement. With this achievement, the college has earned the fame as the first and foremost college of the State launching the PhD Course.
Notably, University Grant Commission granted the 'Autonomous Status' to North Lakhimpur College in 2013. The college is the first and foremost college having the 'Autonomous Status' in the entire northeast region. After this achievement, the Assamese Department of the college introduced the Post Graduate (PG) Course in 2014. After successful conduction of the PG Course for the next six years, the Assamese Department managed to launch the MPhil Course too in 2020.
Continuing the trend, the same department of the college initiated moves to launch the PhD course during the month of January of the current year. As a result of it, the teaching of the course concerned started from May 29. At the first phase, the teaching has been conducted on the Method of Research'.
On the occasion of launching the course, a ceremonial programme was organized, which commenced with Principal Dr. Biman Chandra Chetia in the chair and under the management of Dr. Arabinda Rajkhowa, the HoD of Assamese. Prominent academician, science writer, columnist Dr. Mukunda Rajbonshi was present in the event as guest of honour.

The Assamese Department of the college has put forward a big step in the academic arena of the State by introducing the PhD Course", stated Dr. Mukunda Rajbonshi while delivering his lecture by lauding the college and the department concerned for their continuous achievements
Vice-Principal (Academic) of the college, Bani Kanta Konwar delivered the welcome address in the programme. On the other hand, Controller of Examination, Dr. Chandra Manche explained the guidelines related to the research works while Dr. Biman Chandra Chetia delivered his lecture extending greetings to the newly admitted researchers. Assam Mathematics Academy chairperson Dr. Ramchandra Deka attended the event as special guest. Notably, a total of 12 researchers have got admission in the PhD Course in the college under the guidance of Dr. Arabinda Rajkhowa, Dr. Hemanta Sarmah and Dr. Dheeraj Pator, the recognized professors of the Assamese Department.
