Noted social worker Mukti Prabha Hazarika passes away in Guwahati

GAURISAGAR: Mukti Prabha Hazarika, wife of Someswar Baruwati, a resident of Charing Baruwati village in Sivasagar district and a noted social worker, former assistant teacher of Sachidhar Phukan (SDP) Girls' High School, Charing died on March 29 in the residence of her eldest son in Guwahati. She was 85.

Mukti Prabha Hazarika passed her matriculation from SDP Girls' High School, Charing. Thereafter she joined the Jorhat Basic Training Centre. Later, she joined in SDP Girls' High School as an assistant teacher and got superannuation in February 28, 2001. She was the daughter of veteran freedom fighter Rupeswar Hazarika.

She was actively associated with Sivasagar Zila Moina Parijat and dedicated her life for all-round development of children as well as women empowerment. For her outstanding contribution towards development of Sivasagar Zila Moina Parijat, she was conferred the Moina Sarathi title on May 27, 2002 in the biennial conference. She was publicly felicitated by SMD College, Charing on October 2, 2012 for her contribution towards women empowerment and children's development in the greater Charing area. She was also conferred the BK Bhandari-Sabitri Bhandari Memorial Sarbudoi award by Asom Sarbudoy Mondal and Sarbudoy Family Trust, Basistha, Guwahati on February 12, 2017.

Mukti Prabha Hazarika was also a writer and Adhyatmik Chintan and Abegor Pratichabbi are her two remarkable books. Her demise has been widely condoled. Her last rites were performed in Charing Baruwati village in presence of a huge gathering. She is survived by three sons, two daughters and a host of relatives.
