Noted writer and district museum officer Nripen Roy passes away in Barpeta

Noted writer, poet, researcher and District Museum Officer Nripen Roy passed away on Thursday at his residence at Bishnupur, Barpeta.

Barpeta: Noted writer, poet, researcher and District Museum Officer Nripen Roy passed away on Thursday at his residence at Bishnupur, Barpeta. He was suffering from various ailments for a long period. His death is a great loss for the people of Barpeta.

The Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta paid homage at his funeral. Nripen Roy was born on June 26 in 1961 in Nalbari district. He completed his primary education in Nalbari. Later, his family shifted to Nijsariyah, Patacharkuchi in Barpeta district. Completing his high school education from Patacharkuchi Vidyapith, he completed B.Sc from Arya Vidyapith College, Guwahati and did his MA in Anthropology. He joined as the museum officer in Barpeta district museum. In spite of his physical disabilities, he contributed a lot to the society. He wrote many books, poems and articles and edited magazines. He was associated with many organizations like Greenland, Asom Satra Mahasabha and Barpeta Sahitya Sabha.

He was conferred the Rongmon Award for Asomiya Rahasya Sahitya competition in 1985. He was an active worker of the Assam Movement. President of Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) Lurinjyoti Gogoi, BJP leader Anil Kr Das, among others, have condoled his demise.
