NSS Unit of Gargaon College conducts Swachhata Hi Seva campaign

On the occasion of the 154th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the NSS Unit of Gargaon College, in collaboration with Eco Club, conducted the fortnight festival of cleanliness with the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2023 campaign themed ‘Garbage-Free India’ from September 15 to October 2.

SIVASAGAR: On the occasion of the 154th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the NSS Unit of Gargaon College, in collaboration with Eco Club, conducted the fortnight festival of cleanliness with the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2023 campaign themed ‘Garbage-Free India’ from September 15 to October 2.

As part of this campaign, the unit conducted various activities like cleanliness drive at the college premises, Balighat market, Simaluguri Junction, archaeological site Borduarmukh, tree plantation drive etc. Swachhta pledge was also taken by all NSS volunteers under the supervision of Dr Rimjim Borah, Programme Officer of NSS Unit Gargaon College. The Unit also organized a rally from the college to Karenghar Tiniali to bring awareness to keep the surroundings clean.

On October 1, the NSS Unit, in association with Simaluguri Municipal Board, organized one-hour Shramdaan activities to clean various streets of Simaluguri town. On October 2, the NSS Unit, in association with Yuva Tourism Club, IQAC and Chaw Ching Konwari Chatri Nivas, organized a cleanliness drive at the college premises and surrounding areas, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. The garbage and other plastic waste materials littered around were collected by all volunteers and disposed of in an eco-friendly way.

More than 150 volunteers and students participated in this drive under the supervision of Dr Dimbeswar Das and Dr Rimjim Borah. Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta, Principal of Gargaon College, thanked all the wings of the college for their enthusiastic participation and for successfully organizing this programme.
