TEZPUR: A sensitization meeting was organized by District Heath Society, National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP), Sonitpur among Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI) members of Sonitpur. The meeting was presided over by Dr. Sanjoy Roy, District Tuberculosis Officer, Sonitpur, Tezpur.
The objectives of the meeting were shared by Santosh Sarmah, STS, Balipara TB Unit. He welcomed all the participants. Dr. Samir Sarma, MOTC, Tezpur TB Unit elaborately discussed about the signs, symptoms and treatment procedure for tuberculosis. In his speech, Dr. Sarma intimated the house about free diagnosis and medication for TB treatment at all government institutions of the district.
Joydeep Roy, District PPM Coordinator, briefed about MDR-TB and TB-HIV. He also informed the house about PM Nikshay Poshan Yojana under which every diagnosed TB patient is eligible to receive an amount of Rs 500 per month till treatment completion, including both public and private sector cases.
Abhijit Lahkar, STS, Tezpur TB unit, in his speech discussed about the social responsibility of every citizen to join hands in elimination of TB by 2025 as desired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Abhijit Lahkar emphasized the role of grassroots level workers and the Panchayat members in elimination of TB as they were the key members of the community. He also informed the participants about the adverse affects of consumption of alcohol and tobacco in the treatment of TB.
