NTPC distributes appliances to persons with disabilities in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: The NTPC, situated at Salakati in Kokrajhar district, in collaboration with National Institute for Locomotor Disabilities (Divyangjan) recently distributed kits and provided rehabilitation of Persons with Disability (PwDs) through its Disability Rehabilitation Centres at Bongaigaon through restorative surgeries, medical interventions, fitting of artificial aids and appliances, therapeutic services etc.

As part of the initiative, a total of 9 tricycles, 12 smart-canes, 3 wheelchairs, and 1 crutch were distributed to a total of 25 beneficiaries of nearby villages of the power station.

SK Jha, GM (Fuel Management), NTPC Bongaigaon and chief guest of the occasion along with all the dignitaries distributed the aids to the persons with disabilities. Sh. Jha appreciated the initiative and spoke on the determination of the people and encouraged them.

Arunashis Das, GM (Projects) present on the occasion expressed his happiness for conducting the noble initiative. Vidya Jha, vice president Bardwi Sikhla Ladies Club, Saswati Majumdar, General Secretary Bardwi Sikhla Ladies Club, Dr. Ela Chakrabarty, CMO, Paresh Mathur, AGM (TS), Bhaskar Gupta, DGM (HR) Gunindra Talukdar, District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO), along with village council development committee members, NTPC Bongaigaon hospital doctors and staff, representatives of union and association were also present on the occasion. This intiative was done with the help of the District Social Welfare Department and the Village Council Development Committee (VCDC) Chairpersons who helped with facilitating wide outreach and information to the locals. The initiative was a part of the conclusion to the screening camp held in February 2022, a follow-up camp for the distribution of aids and assistive devices for the Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) was held on February 15, 2023.

The Disability Rehabilitation Centre (DRC) at NTPC Bongaigaon was started in March 2011, however social welfare activities were not conducted in full swing due to factors such as shortage of doctors and then the COVID pandemic. In 2022, services were finally resumed where people from nearby villages were called for an identification & screening camp to NTPC Bongaigaon where experts from National Institute of Locomotor Disabilities (NILD) were present to perform the diagnosis & matching of needs of the people to the assistive devices as per identified disabilities.
